Kuntala Waterfalls is located at Kuntala village in Adilabad district of Telangana state. It is the highest waterfalls of the state with a height of 45 metres. It is situated amidst lush green forests and scenic hilly ranges.
According to a legend, under this falls only, Shakuntala fell in deep love with the King Dushyanta, father of the great Lord Rama. It is said that Shakuntala used to bath at this falls. Hence, the waterfall derived its name from King Dushyanta’s wife, Shakuntala. These falls were originated from the river of Kanda that is flowing just in the mid of the Sahayadri mountain ranges. During the monsoon season, heavy water flows through Kanda River and make this falls very beautiful. You can see the glimpse of foam on the waterfalls when it falls with the combination of water and air. The smell of various herbs around this falls produces soothing air to breathe. The cool breeze passing through the falls will enthrall you. There is also a temple of Someshwara Swamy nearby that can be reached by pathway close to the hill.
The falls can be seen as two separate adjoining falls after the main peak rains. Till the entry point of the falls, there is a motor able road. From there, you have to walk down 400 steps to reach the waterfalls. It will hardly take 10-20 minutes. Don’t get into the water at bottom when the water flow is high mainly during the rainy seasons. As the rocks near the falls are sharp and slippery, please refrain from adventurous activities like trekking.
